The later the attacker can add dice in the above sequence, the better it is for him, as every single step whittles down the maximum possible damage that will actually be applied to the victim's health levels.

The attack roll, in which the attacker's Dexterity is added in dice - roughly 40% of those convert to successes which carry over to the following steps. Are they worthwile in vampire on vampire combat if you don't use special ammunition(like incendary or melted down crosses or whatever)?Ĭlick to expand.I dunno about a consensus, but think about this - there are four steps to attack resolution: Did anyone found this to drag-out their fights? Or is the rule better the way it is? I don't know yet, but I'd rather ask if anyone prefers the old versionģ) Do people reccomend using houserules to make the Dexterity attribute less powerful? And what kind?Ĥ) Would a vampire trying to stake another vampire be efficient? As efficient as biting maybe? Or not worth to bother?ĥ) If above is worthwile, would you reccomend allowing spears to count as stakes? As in, steel spear-head pierces first, then the whole wooden shaft goes trough the heart, just like a stake would?Ħ) Firearms. 3rd edition makes it possible, previously it was only 'when resting, away from danger'. Oh, and high Celerity + bite attack seems like pure murder.Ģ) Blood Healing during combat. Claws(from Protean) have almost no advantage over biting, other than that you won't lose a turn clinching(or holding or tackling).

Avoiding getting clinched while maintaining a strong attack seems difficult. To those who know it well, I've got a few questions concerning the combat mechanics:ġ) If combat is vampire against vampire, is any close combat option or tactic superior to using your fangs? Melee weapons deal non-aggravated damage and you have to get out of the clinch to use them.
